Summer Camp Descriptions for 2010:

Mustard Seed Camp $130/person* (3-night) or $90/person (2-night) (for rising Kindergarten–3rd graders and their parents; June 16-19; July 9-11)
*Note: Each Mustard Seed Camper must be accompanied by an adult.

This terrific camp helps introduce young children and their parents or guardians to camping at Cedar Crest. Campers attend this session with an adult and experience the many fun activities offered in a full-week session, but on a smaller scale. Most of the time is spent with kids and adults playing and learning together, although some separate activities are planned during the day, as well, to encourage independence and enhance kids’ comfort level in coming to camp on their own in the future. The mustard seed is one of the smallest seeds, but it produces large trees; Jesus used the mustard seed to describe how even just a little faith can produce big results. This year’s campers will explore how even big heroes can come in small packages.

“Just Me” Mini-Camp (3-night) $165 (for rising 3rd-4th graders; June 16-19; July 30-Aug 2)
This is a shortened version of our week-long elementary resident camp. This three-day, two-night camp is a fun introduction for first-time or younger campers. Activities are interactive in nature, so that campers are encouraged to make friends with other group members and stay busy from morning to night (helping avoid homesickness). They will learn that heroes come in many different shapes and sizes.

Agape Camp (5-night) $240 (for rising 3rd-5th graders; June 20-25; June 27-July 2 combined with Icthus; July 18-23 rustic; July 25-30) [4-night version July 5-9: $210]
Agape is the Greek work Jesus used to describe the kind of love God has for us—a selfless, sacrificial kind of love. One trait that undergirds all heroes, even fictional superheroes, is a willingness to put others before themselves. Agape Camp participants will explore how to love others in truly heroic ways.

Icthus Camp (5-night) $240 (for rising 5th-7th graders; June 20-25; June 27-July 2combined with Agape; July 18-23 rustic; July 25-30) [4-night version July 5-9: $210]
Icthus is the ancient Greek word for “fish,” commonly depicted as the “Jesus Fish,” which was a symbol used by early Christians who had to meet in secret in order to avoid prosecution. Icthus Camp participants will explore lives of vibrant faith even in the midst of opposition, especially focusing on those heroes of the faith who have gone before us, paving the way for us to follow in the way of Christ.

Unlikely Heroes Youth Camp (5-night) $280 (for graduated 6th-12th graders, July 18-23)
This is traditional youth camp, all onsite at Cedar Crest. This is a great opportunity for campers to make new friends and participate in a variety of activities: arts and crafts, water games, nine-square, gaga ball, swimming, hiking, talent shows, and campfires. Campers will also test their team-building skills through low-element ropes courses, group initiatives, canoeing, archery, open-fire cooking, and outdoor orienteering. Campers will explore lessons about heroes of the faith and unlock the heroes within them as they explore how to live like Jesus every day.

Epic Adventure Camp (5-night) $300 (for students 12 years old or older, June 27-July 2, limit 50 participants)
This camp offers opportunities for campers to complete physical challenges, take time for spiritual reflection, learn new skills, and make new friends. Campers will take part in traditional camp events onsite like arts and crafts, water games, swimming, hiking, and campfires; and they will also test their survival skills through low-element ropes courses, group initiatives, archery, open-fire cooking, and outdoor orienteering. At Cedar Crest, adventure campers will be housed in rustic cabins. They will also go offsite to canoe the Buffalo River, camp out in tents, and conquer a high-element challenge course (with climbing tower and flying squirrel). Campers learn parallel lessons between these activities and their own personal spiritual development, learning about God’s outdoors and how to join other great heroes of the faith as they learn to live like Jesus.

Celebration $90 (for graduated 6th-12th graders, August 4-6)
Celebration Camp participants will share gifts and learn how each of our unique talents can be utilized for worship. Youth will have the opportunity to explore and develop specific musical, spoken, and visual arts to create worship experiences for the community. As an exciting part of the experience, the campers who wish to combine Celebration with Summer Sizzler will have the opportunity to participate in worship during the Summer Sizzler weekend.

Summer Sizzler $70 (if postmarked by June 25)
This event sponsored by the TNCCYM is filled with traditional games, tournaments, YSF challenges, district meetings, a cookout, and honoring the graduating high school seniors from across the conference during the Sunday morning worship. Find out more information about Summer Sizzler here.

Celebration & Summer Sizzler Combination $150 (for graduated 6th-12th graders, August 4-8).

All of our camps practice Safe Sanctuary principles and take seriously the safety and security of young people. We are also committed to providing environments in which spiritual transformation can occur. Our job is to provide young people with experiences that will form their faith for years to come.
